The Garfield Movie (2025) Review – A Lasagna-Fueled, Time-Bending Adventure!

The Garfield Movie (2025) – Full Review (Spoilers Inside!)

Garfield, the lasagna-loving, nap-taking orange tabby, has clawed his way back onto the big screen! But this time, he’s not just lounging around — he’s on a wild adventure with his long-lost dad, dodging bad guys and stepping way out of his comfort zone.

Directed by Mark Dindal, and starring Chris Pratt as the voice of Garfield and Samuel L. Jackson as Vic (Garfield’s estranged street-cat dad), this 2025 reboot is a bold attempt to modernize a classic character — and surprisingly, it works… most of the time.

Plot Summary

The film kicks off with classic Garfield vibes: sarcastic commentary, hatred for Mondays, and an unholy obsession with lasagna. Life is lazy and good — until his dad Vic shows up out of nowhere with a mission.

Turns out, Vic owes a big debt to a criminal cat gang led by a villainous Persian named Jinx. To save himself (and Garfield), they have to pull off a high-stakes dairy heist — breaking into a milk factory like it’s Ocean’s Eleven: Feline Edition.

The movie follows the reluctant father-son duo as they sneak, scam, and squabble their way through action-packed sequences, all while Odie tags along being… well, Odie.

There are emotional beats too, as Garfield comes to terms with Vic’s abandonment and learns that maybe — just maybe — family matters more than food. (Okay, as much as food.)

Voice Cast & Performances

  • Chris Pratt as Garfield: Surprisingly solid! His snark lands well, though fans of the original may still miss Bill Murray’s dry delivery.

  • Samuel L. Jackson as Vic: Brings swagger, heart, and some of the film’s best lines.

  • Hannah Waddingham (as Jinx): Deliciously evil. She’s got classic Disney villain energy, and we love it.

  • Ving Rhames and Nicholas Hoult round out a strong supporting voice cast.

Animation, Humor & Direction

Visually, the movie pops. The animation is bright, bouncy, and full of fun little details — Garfield’s exaggerated reactions are especially meme-worthy.

The humor is more kid-focused but has enough wink-wink moments for adults to chuckle at too. Think: slapstick meets sarcasm with a sprinkle of heart.

Director Mark Dindal (of Chicken Little fame) does a solid job balancing the emotional core with fast-paced action and silliness. It never drags, and the pacing keeps kids entertained all the way.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Charming voice work

  • Fun, fast-paced plot

  • Gorgeous animation

  • Great father-son dynamic

  • Loads of Garfield Easter eggs

Cons:

  • A bit too safe at times

  • Some jokes fall flat for adults

  • Feels like it almost wants to be deeper but pulls back

FlicksVerse Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

It’s not purr-fect, but The Garfield Movie (2025) is a fun, surprisingly emotional romp that delivers more than just gags and carbs. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or a curious newcomer, there’s something to enjoy here.

Final Verdict

Garfield’s big return is a crowd-pleasing, tail-wagging time. It’s silly. It’s sweet. It’s full of cheese (literally and figuratively). And best of all? It reminds us that even the laziest cat can go the distance for family.

Now excuse us while we order some lasagna.
